The Faculty of Process and Systems Engineering seeks to fill the following vacancy -subject to the allocation of funds- at the Chair of Thermal Process Engineering: # Research Associate Biosystems Engineering within the DFG Priority Programme „Productive Biofilm Systems“ (m/f/d) Salary scale: **13 TV-L** Date commencing: 01.05.2025 Fixed term (until): **3 years** Contract status: **75-100 %** We are a university with a focus on engineering and natural sciences as well as economics, human sciences and medicine. Allocation of funds provided, the advertised position will be affiliated to the Chair of Thermal Process Engineering in the research group “Transport in Porous Media” (Head: Dr.-Ing. Nicole Vorhauer-Huget). The research project will be integrated into the DFG Priority Programme (SPP 2494) “Productive Biofilm Systems”, focusing on fundamental research for novel sustainable, i.e. „green“, production pathways for a bio-based economy. The position offers diverse opportunities for personal qualification in regard of, e.g. independent project implementation, networking with leading national and international scientists, acquisition of relevant knowledge for the future bio-based industry. ## Job description: - Development of a novel packed-bed bio-reactor for biofilm growth experiments under anaerobic conditions - 3D-printing of microfluidic platforms - Imaging using Confocal Laser Scanning Microscopy and X-ray tomography - Formulation of a mathematical pore network model - Parameter studies - Exchange of data with project partners within the Priority Programme - Publication of results and presentation at national and international conferences ## Requirements profile: - Above-average university degree (Master's) in the field of bio-systems engineering, process or environmental engineering, chemical and energy engineering or similar fields of study - Experience with experimental work, summary of results and evaluation - Experience with modeling and simulation, e.g. in Matlab, Python - Very good written and spoken German and English skills - Willingness to work in an international team ## Your benefits: - You have the opportunity to do a doctorate and are supported and encouraged accordingly. - The DFG Priority Programme and the Graduate Academy offers various support for personal development.
