The Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Biology in Plön is an internationally oriented institution whose research focuses on the principles, mechanisms and effects of evolutionary change. Around 200 employees from more than 30 nations currently work at our institute in the departments of Theoretical Biology and Microbial Population Biology, as well as in a number of independent research groups. We are looking for a **Research Software Engineer (m/f/d)** for part-time support (25h/week) in the implementation of the work plan of the NFDI4BIOIMAGE consortium, limited for two years. The position is available from the earliest possible starting date. **The position:** You will become part of a distributed team of Research Software Engineers. The team develops state-of-the-art software solutions for the management, processing, and analysis of bioimage data. You contribute to an opensource software ecosystem to make FAIR data principles a reality in bioimaging. Your part in the project will be the development of data processing and aggregation pipelines to transform isolated data silos into an interconnected data and metadata resource. You develop a user friendly data interrogation framework based on large language models and graphical exploration tools. You engage with other stakeholders in the NFDI4BIOIMAGE consortium and in the scientific community. **Your profile:** As a graduate of a university or university of applied sciences in bioinformatics, computer science, information technology or similar disciplines, you are an experienced developer of open source software in a scientific setting. Python is your stronghold and you master the UNIX/LINUX command line as well as GIT version control. A general understanding of workflow management systems and software containers round off your profile. You are a reliable, self-motivated individual, eager to extend your “comfort zone“. Documenting and presenting your results in English is a natural part of your day-to-day work. You prefer to work in an agile team of scientists, technicians and developers with flat hierarchies and a dynamic distribution of tasks and roles.
