You will be working on a third-party-funded consortium project dealing with improvements in diagnosis of radiation-induced acute health effects. The part you are involved aims to convert cytogenetic measurements into clinically relevant information. Other than usually, in this project, cytogenetic measurements are not used for individual radiation exposure estimation (no biodosimetry) but clinically relevant patient groups (unexposed, yes/no hospitalization) will be predicted. Based on that diagnostic tool clinicians shall be able to better decide early after radiation exposure about the medical management of radiation exposed individuals who later might become severely sick.

After consultation with a doctor, you are supposed to collect venous blood from patients. Based on a lymphocyte cell count you will divide the whole blood into aliquots and cryopreserve it following a certain protocol. These data including the number of aliquots will be documented.

After consultation with the project coordinator you will be responsible for collecting clinical (e.g., diseases), demographic (e.g., age, gender) and social habits data (e.g., alcohol consumption, smoking) from healthy donors and patients. Data will be stored in a secured database.

From that database, anonymized data will be extracted and copied into an Excel sheet, which provides the link to eight European cytogenetic labs who require the frozen whole blood aliquots for cytogenetic measurements. These data are also later required for data analysis.

After discussions with the coordinator of the project, you will send the frozen samples to these cytogenetic laboratories.

The position is available at 01.01.2025.

You will be hired into a fixed-term employment contract, according to the so-called “Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz” (academic contract law).

You can expect a salary (E5, 100%), measured according to the collective agreement of the public service (TVöD).

You will work for an acknowledged and family-friendly employer in secure economic circumstances.

The Bundeswehr promotes the compatibility of family, health care, and career, for example, via remote work or part-time employment. The occupation can be part-time.

You will work in a dedicated and experienced team with modern laboratory equipment.
