We are looking for a highly motivated and talented laboratory research technician (m/f/x) to join our growing research team in the Cardiovascular Molecular Biology Lab led by Gregor Sachse. The full-time position (40 hours/ week) is limited to 12 months, starts as soon as possible, and is located at the MHB University Hospital in Brandenburg an der Havel in the Center for Translational Medicine.


The Brandenburg Medical School Theodor Fontane (MHB) is a state-recognized university, a non-profit institution under municipal sponsorship. It stands for innovative teaching concepts and the integration of research, student education and patient care. With three university hospitals and currently more than 30 cooperating clinics and around 200 teaching practices we pool science-based expertise and practice-oriented know-how to educate a new generation of physicians and psychologists. MHB´s vision is to ensure optimal care for patients in the rural area of Brandenburg in the long term through research and education. Therefore, MHB consistently focuses its research on aging people and their individual needs in rural areas.


The [Center for Translational Medicine Berlin-Brandenburg](https://www.mhb-fontane.de/en/center-translational-medicine) (ZTM-BB), which focuses on disease-oriented translational basic research, has been the central research building on the campus of the Brandenburg an der Havel University Hospital since August 2018. It provides state-of-the art facilities for experimental cardiovascular and oncological research.


The [Cardiovascular Molecular Biology Lab](https://health-science-atlas.innohub13.de/node/103) headed by Prof. Oliver Ritter and Dr. Gregor Sachse focuses on ion channel pathologies, genetically modified animal models of disease and molecular mechanisms of physiology and cell biology. It is part of the Integrated Working Group Molecular Mechanisms of Cardiovascular Disease (IAG MMKE).

A Research Technician is required to support our lab team as part of grant-funded cardiovascular research projects. They will be required to support the post-doctoral scientists by carrying out general laboratory maintenance, general lab administration and a range of molecular biology procedures.


Main duties and responsibilities:


You will be expected to organize and perform the following laboratory procedures:


  • general laboratory maintenance (e.g. autoclaving, glass-washing, media preparation)
  • ordering and order distribution
  • store replenishment and stock-taking
  • instrument maintenance
  • molecular biology techniques and methods (DNA cloning, PCR, plasmid manipulation, RNA extraction and purification)
  • cell culture of primary and long-term cell lines
  • handling of human and laboratory animal samples
  • protein characterisation (SDS-PAGE, Western blot etc) and protein quantification (UV absorbance, Bradford)
  • adherance to all applicable health & safety regulations
  • detailed and precise record keeping of all experiments
  • participation in regular lab meetings

Selection criteria:


  • degree as medical-technical laboratory assistant [MTLA] (m/f/d), biological-technical assistant [BTA] (m/f/d), pharmaceutical-technical assistant [PTA] (m/f/d), a completed master's degree in biomedicine/ bioscience or an equivalent qualification
  • previous laboratory experience is required, importantly experience with at least several of the skills listed above
  • good oral and written communication skills in German or English
  • demonstrates enthusiasm and responsibility
  • excellent organizational skills
  • willingness to work independently and as part of a team
  • academic interest in ion channels, cellular physiology and molecular biology is desirable
  • solid information technology skills, e.g. use of standard office software
