The Max Planck Institute for Solar System Research (MPS) in Göttingen isone of the world's leading research institutions in the field of solar physicsand planetary research with around 300 employees. The interdisciplinaryresearch focus is the investigation of the development, diversity anddynamics of planets, moons, small bodies, the sun and solar-like stars.The MPS develops and operates scientific instruments for current andfuture space missions (e.g. ESA, NASA), and carries out cosmochemicallaboratory investigations of meteorites as well as numerical modeling onstate-of-the-art supercomputers.

Planetary Scientist (f/m/d)


Your Tasks


The candidate will work on science operations and exploitation of theSubmillimetre Wavelength Instrument (SWI) onboard ESA's JUpiter ICyMoons Explorer (JUICE) to pursue an internationally recognized researchprogram with a focus on Jupiter’s atmosphere and/or the exospheres ofthe Galilean moons. We are looking for an internationally recognizedscholar who is interested in assuming a leading role in the SWI team at MPS.


Your Qualification


Candidates must hold a PhD within the field of planetary science orrelated fields, ideally awarded within the past eight years, have relevantpostdoctoral research experience, excellent research qualities, as shownby a publication record in international peer-reviewed journals,organisational competences, and good command of spoken and writtenEnglish. In addition, experience in the design and operation of spaceinstruments is desired, ideally within the field of submillimetre and/orinfrared astronomy.


Additional Information


The appointment is offered starting January, 2025 for three years initiallyand is expected to be extended until the end of the JUICE mission,depending on availability of funding and taking into account potentialrestrictions from labor legislation. Remuneration is according to TVöD-Bund E14.
