Job descriptionThis call for a Climate Data Analyst is part of our initiative to broaden our roster of experts specializing in regional climate modeling and data management. We are seeking distinguished professionals who are interested in contributing their expertise on a project basis and becoming integral to our future climate resilience initiatives. The role of the Climate Data Analyst focuses on supporting and enhancing our climate and energy systems modeling projects through rigorous data analysis and application of advanced analytical techniques. Your Responsibilities

  • Design and manage databases specific to climate data, ensuring data integrity, quality control, and normalization
  • Handle large datasets and perform complex statistical analyses to support climate modeling and impact assessments
  • Utilize models to analyze current and future climate scenarios under various greenhouse gas emissions pathways
  • Support conducting risk and vulnerability assessments to understand potential impacts of climate change on various sectors such as agriculture, water resources, and urban planning
  • Proficiency in climate data analysis tools such as Python, R, GIS, and others relevant to data analysis and model simulation
  • Prepare detailed reports and scientific papers for publication in peer-reviewed journals
  • Document methodologies, data analysis procedures, and findings for stakeholders and policy recommendations
  • Communicate complex climate data and findings to a diverse audience, including technical and non-technical stakeholders to facilitate data-driven decision-making
  • Provide training and capacity building to project partners on climate data analysis, the use of climate modeling tools, and understanding climate risk assessments
  • Stay abreast of advancements in climate science and data analysis technologies. Innovate and propose new methods or tools to enhance climate analysis and modeling capabilities
  • Adapt methodologies and focus areas based on emerging climate issues and the evolving needs of regions or sectors being studied

Your profile Education and experience

  • A Master’s degree in Earth Sciences, Physics, Climate Science, Environmental Science, Data Science, or a related field; PhD preferred
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in climate science research and data analysis or a related field
  • Demonstrated expertise in handling complex climate datasets
  • Proven track record of conducting high-level research and analysis in the areas of climate change
  • Experience working in or with developing countries on climate change issues is required
  • Strong understanding of IPCC outputs is required
  • A strong publication record in climate science, impacts and adaptation, preferably in developing countries

Skills

  • Expertise in statistical software and programming languages such as Python, R, and GIS applications
  • Strong skills in using machine learning tools and algorithms for predictive modeling and data analysis
  • Excellent ability to interpret complex data and translate findings into actionable recommendations
  • Strong communication skills for presenting data insights and collaborating with cross-functional teams
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to engage and work effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders
  • Fluency in English is required
  • Flexibility to work remotely, complying with company or governmental directives
