The Max Planck Institute of Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics (MPI-CBG) is a pioneering basic research institute in Dresden, Germany focused on cell, developmental, and systems biology. The MPI-CBG shares a single research faculty with the Center for Systems Biology Dresden (CSBD), combining experiment with theory in a collaborative research environment aimed at understanding how cells form tissues and organs. Our research spans multiple scales, from molecular assemblies to organelles, cells, tissues, organs, and organisms. Currently about 500 employees work at the institute, representing over 50 nations and a wide range of scientific expertise. The COO plays a pivotal role in shaping and executing the strategic vision set by the Board of Directors while optimizing operational efficiency at MPI-CBG. By coordinating organizational aspects and developments, the COO ensures a seamless operational environment conducive to research activities. This involves advising the Board and collaborating with the Head of Administration on long-term planning, infrastructure organization, and acquisitions. In overseeing core services and facilities, the COO anticipates and meets the evolving scientific support needs of research groups within the institute. Additionally, the COO helps craft the institute's strategy for the next decade and maintains close ties with the central Max Planck Society headquarters This position bridges the gap between scientific endeavors and administrative functions, coordinating initiatives that drive progress across both realms.

As a key member of the institute's management team, alongside the Managing Director, Deputy Managing Director, Head of Administration, and Scientific Officer, the COO actively contributes to decision-making and strategic planning efforts.

Your profile:

• a strategically savvy leader, with a strong relevant background, exceptional interpersonal skills, and a track record of success.
• able to collaboratively operationalize concepts and transform ideas into action in an interdisciplinary environment.
• Professional experience in both scientific research and management/administration is required. Candidates should hold a university degree in biology, medicine, biophysics or related scientific disciplines (in principle PhD or MD or extensive experience).
• Proficiency in spoken and written English and German is necessary.

The full-time position is available immediately. The initial contract is for 2 years with the expectation of prolongation. Salary and social benefits are in accordance with TVöD Bund (salary agreement for German public service employees) based on qualifications and experience.
