STELLENBESCHREIBUNG

At the Leibniz Institute of Photonic Technology (Leibniz-IPHT) we are looking in the Research Department Spectroscopy & Imaging, Work Group Molecular Imaging, for a

Postdoctoral Researcher

to be filled full-time (100%) as soon as possible. The position is limited until November 30, 2026.

The Leibniz-IPHT is a university independent research institute with close connection to the Friedrich-Schiller-University Jena and member of the Leibniz association. Within the subproject "Nanoparticle Characterization" within the project "ERA-NET Transcan-Neu II - ReachGLIO - Reaching the heterogeneous vasculature of glioblastoma with multifunctional nanomedicines" we are looking for a postdoctoral researcher.

Job description:

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled postdoctoral researcher to join our dynamic team in the field of characterization, distribution and cellular uptake of nanodrugs in vitro and in vivo using linear and non-linear Raman-based imaging techniques. The successful candidate will play a key role in the Europe-wide collaborative project "ReachGlio", which pursues novel approaches to open the blood-brain barrier with drug-loaded and tumor-targeted nanoparticles in order to significantly improve the treatment of glioblastoma patients.

Your field of activity includes:

Linear and non-linear Raman studies to characterize the interaction mechanism of drug-loaded nanoparticles with glioblastoma cell models or tumor tissue as well as their uptake kinetics, aggregation behavior and drug release. The spectroscopic investigations are carried out on samples of increasing complexity, ranging from pure nanoparticles to in vitro studies via single cell experiments and tissue towards in vivo studies.

Collaboration: Close collaboration with a pan-European multidisciplinary team of experts in the development and synthesis of nanocarriers and targeted components as well as experts in the establishment and use of clinically relevant cancer models for drug discovery.

Publication and Documentation: Participation in the preparation of research papers for publication in scientific journals and presentation of results at project meetings and conferences. Detailed documentation of the Raman results.

Your qualification:

Ph.D. in Chemistry or Physics with strong emphasis on optical laser spectroscopy / microscopy

Desired knowledge and skills:

Very good knowledge of linear and non-linear Raman spectroscopy as well as in the field of non-linear microscopy

Proven experience in handling biomedical samples (cells and tissue)

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Excellent communication and cooperation skills

Very good knowledge of written and spoken English

Ability to work in a team and willingness to participate in an interdisciplinary Europe-wide research project

We offer:

An open welcoming culture and an inclusive and interdisciplinary working environment: Located on the Beutenberg campus in Jena, Leibniz-IPHT is home to more than 400 employees from around the world working at the interface of physics, biochemistry, technology, data science and medicine to develop the photonic technologies of tomorrow.

World-class equipment and facilities: Leibniz-IPHT has a large number of physics, chemistry and biology laboratories at the highest level. It also has state-of-the-art fiber drawing and clean room facilities (including lithography facilities) as well as microfluidics fabrication and big data computing facilities.

A family-friendly working environment with support offers for the compatibility of family and work (e.g. parent-child rooms, campus kindergarten places, advice on family care situations from trained care guides and much more).

Flexible working time models as well as 30 days vacation/year, special annual payment and bridge days

Jena - City of Science: a young city with a vibrant local cultural agenda!

Salary:

Salary is in accordance with the regulations of the TV-L and your qualifications and experience.
