Über den Job:
Autonomous street cleaning is no longer a concept - it's on the road. At ENWAY, a Bucher Municipal company based in Berlin, we turn conventional street sweepers into self-driving machines through advanced robotics and software engineering. We've just launched our first product: the Bucher CityCat VR17ae, a fully autonomous compact sweeper.
We're looking for a hands-on Field Service Engineer / Technician (m/f/d) with strong mechatronics skills to keep these advanced vehicles running - commissioning, troubleshooting, maintaining, and improving them in the field and in the workshop.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working directly on machines, is equally comfortable with electrical and mechanical systems, and likes being on the move. You'll travel regularly to customer sites, test locations, and live deployments.
You'll work side by side with our engineering, software, operations, and customer teams - diagnosing issues, keeping vehicles reliable, and feeding real-world insight back into the product.
Backed by Bucher Municipal, a world-leading manufacturer of municipal cleaning vehicles (sweepers, sewer cleaning, winter maintenance, refuse collection, and digital services), you get startup pace with industrial-scale impact.
TASKS
- Diagnose and resolve electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and mechatronic faults on our autonomous sweeper vehicles — from sensors, actuators, and wiring to motors, pumps, valves, control units, and mechanical assemblies.
- Commission, test, maintain, and repair vehicle systems in the field and in the workshop.
- Run structured fault-finding with diagnostic tools, multimeters, CAN tools, service software, and basic scripts; read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring and hydraulic diagrams, and mechanical drawings.
- Troubleshoot software and control-system issues together with our engineering teams.
- Carry out vehicle inspections, preventive maintenance, and functional tests.
- Document issues, root causes, and service actions clearly — and turn what you see in the field into concrete improvement proposals.
- Provide technical support to customers, operators, and internal teams.
- Travel regularly to customer sites, workshops, and test areas (typically 50% or more).
REQUIREMENTS
- Completed technical education, apprenticeship, technician qualification, or engineering degree in mechatronics, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, automotive technology, industrial maintenance, automation technology, or a similar technical field.
- Strong hands-on experience with electrical and mechanical troubleshooting.
- Confidence to work independently in the field and make sound technical decisions on your own.
- Willingness and ability to travel 50% or more.
- Fluent communication in English and German; German at least B2.
- Structured, solution-oriented working style and good communication with customers, operators, and engineering teams.
- Valid driving license (Class B; C/CE a plus).
Nice to have:
- Good understanding of vehicle systems, ideally sweepers, municipal or mobile machinery, agricultural or construction equipment, or automotive systems.
- CAN bus diagnostics (J1939, CANopen) or other automotive communication protocols.
- Comfort reading logs, analysing error codes, and supporting software debugging.
- Knowledge of safety systems, emergency-stop circuits, relays, fuses, contactors, and low-voltage electrical systems.
- Welding, fabrication, mechanical assembly, or workshop repair experience.
- Familiarity with documentation and issue-tracking tools (Jira, GitLab, or similar).
- Experience training customers and supporting operators.
BENEFITS
- Be part of a pioneering team bringing one of the world's first fully autonomous compact sweepers to the streets.
- High responsibility and direct, visible impact on vehicle performance and reliability.
- A technically diverse, hands-on role across workshop, field, testing, and customer sites - no two weeks the same.
- Real room to grow and specialise as the product and team scale.
- Competitive salary + company car / travel package.
- 30 days of vacation per year.
- Flexible working hours.
- A high degree of freedom and ownership in how you work.
- Lunch and fitness-studio subsidies.
- Regular team events.
- A cool, vibrant Berlin working environment at the center of groundbreaking innovation.
